State banquet attire: Interesting coincidence between BLACKPINK and Princess Diana

Is it possible that the outfits of the four BLACKPINK members were inspired by Princess Diana of Wales?

Although the event of BLACKPINK attending the state banquet at Buckingham Palace (United Kingdom) concluded, the aftermath of this unexpected appearance continues to stir public interest.

Recently, on X (formerly Twitter), a hypothesis is circulating: did BLACKPINK reference Princess Diana’s attire for this special event?

Jisoo

Jisoo wore a black, puff-sleeved dress with patterns from Dior’s Resort 2024 collection, inspired by Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs honoring Frida Kahlo.

Her look reminded many of the black taffeta wrap dress that Princess Diana wore to a banquet at Goldsmith’s Hall in 1981, becoming an icon of royal elegance.

Jennie

Jennie looked sweet in a custom-made off-shoulder white wedding dress by Lihi Hod Bridal. She chose black sandals and a sparkling silver clutch to complement her elegant and graceful long-sleeved dress.

Jennie’s outfit at the state banquet evoked memories of the sophisticated white off-shoulder dress that Princess Diana wore to the classic ballet “La Bayadère” in London in 1988, accompanied by a white clutch, a diamond-studded choker and sapphire accessories to complete her look.

Rosé

Rosé showcased her slender figure in a tight black velvet dress paired with ton sur ton pointed-toe high-heeled shoes. The design worn by BLACKPINK’s main vocalist is part of Pinkong’s 2024 collection.

Fans couldn’t help but recall the “revenge dress” that Princess Diana wore in June 1994. This provocative off-shoulder design was crafted by designer Christina Stambolian.

Lisa

In contrast to her group members, Lisa opted for a turquoise-toned dress by Georges Hobeika. The tulle cape of this design added a graceful and royal touch to the artist. Notably, Lisa shone with luxurious jewelry from BVLGARI, Rene Caovilla shoes and a FENDI clutch.

Lisa’s choice was pointed out to bear similarities to the cool blue chiffon dress that Princess Diana wore on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987.
