“Squid Game Season 2” scheduled to be released at the end of this year

According to foreign media outlets such as Deadline on Jan 24th (Korean time), Netflix announced through its investor letter after its financials that “Squid Game Season 2″ is scheduled to air in 2024.

Netflix stated, “Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. ‘Squid Game Season 2’ will debut alongside the second seasons of The Diplomat and Empress as well as the third season of Bridgerton.”

“Squid Game” was released through Netflix on Sep 17th, 2021 and gained tremendous popularity worldwide. The series recorded over 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks, surpassing Bridgerton as the service’s most-watched show.

In “Squid Game Season 2”, Lee Byung-hun will return as the Front Man, and Wi Ha-joon will return as the homicide detective Hwang Jun-ho. Gong Yoo will also make a return.

New actors joining the cast include Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-shim, Lee David, Lee Jin-wook, Choi Seung-hyun, No Jae-won and Won Ji-an.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk will also return as the director and executive producer for the second season of the series.

Meanwhile, at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards held in 2022, Lee Jung-jae won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk received the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series award thanks to “Squid Game”.
