Director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirms ‘Squid Game’ will have a season 2 and Lee Jung-jae will continue to appear

“Squid Game” director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed the possibility of season 2.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Nov 9th (local time), when asked “When is season 2 coming?”, Hwang replied, “I do have a basic storyline.” He continued, “It’s all in my head. I am currently in the brainstorming stage.” Then he added, “Season 2 will happen someday, but as for when I cannot tell you the details.”

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “Coming here and really seeing how well-received ‘Squid Game’ is and how much the fans want it, I have been getting the same question by the press as well.” He revealed, “What I can say is that Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) is going to be back, and he will do something for the world.”

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, Lee Jung-jae, etc. were invited to the house of Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO and chief content officer. Hwang shared, “Ted Sarandos warmly welcomed us to his home and provided us a wonderful, amazing dinner. So, we really enjoyed that.”

The Hollywood Reporter reported, “According to Netflix, it ‘only took 17 days’ after its Sept. 17 debut and ‘111 million global fans’ for the nine-episode series ‘Squid Game’ to become the streamer’s biggest series ever – and the first to surpass 100 million views.” Meanwhile, “Squid Game” tells the story of those who participate in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner. It is recorded as the best hit in Netflix’s history.
