Singer Soyou, best known as a former member of the K-pop girl group SISTAR, recently opened up about how her thoughts on marriage have changed over time, revealing that she no longer feels strongly about tying the knot.
The singer shared her candid thoughts in the web variety show Alttaldalhan Chamgyeon (알딸딸한 참견), released on March 10. During the conversation, Soyou clarified that she has not completely ruled out marriage but admitted that the idea is no longer a priority in her life.
She reflected on how different her dreams were when she was younger. “My life goal used to be becoming a wise wife and good mother rather than Korea’s top star like Beyoncé,” she said, referring to global superstar Beyoncé. “Since I was young, my dream was to build a happy family.”

However, her perspective began to shift during the COVID-19 pandemic. Soyou recalled a moment that deeply affected her view of bringing children into the world.
“During the pandemic, I heard children saying things like, ‘There are no masks.’ After hearing that, I started thinking that I didn’t really want to bring a child into a world like this,” she explained. “If I’m not planning to have a child, I wondered whether there was any reason to get married. That’s how my thoughts about marriage naturally faded.”
The singer also revealed that she once considered freezing her eggs around the age of 30 but ultimately did not go through with the procedure. She had initially planned to improve her health and prepare for egg freezing, but after learning more about the process, she hesitated.
“I found out that egg freezing isn’t just a one-time procedure. You have to keep injecting hormones into your stomach,” Soyou said. “I have a strong fear of injections, so I ended up giving up on the idea.”

Despite her current mindset, Soyou emphasized that she has not completely closed the door on marriage. Instead, she described her feelings as simply being indifferent toward it at the moment.
“It’s not that I dislike marriage. I just don’t really think about it anymore,” she said. The singer also hinted that she remains open to romance, adding with a smile that it has not been more than five years since her last relationship—though she chose not to reveal further details.
Soyou debuted with SISTAR in 2010 and gained recognition for her powerful vocals and numerous hit songs. Even after the group disbanded in 2017, she has continued to build her career as a solo artist while appearing on various entertainment programs.
