K-pop producer and singer Park Jin Young has officially stepped down from his role as an internal director at JYP Entertainment, drawing widespread attention to the next chapter of his career and his broader ambitions for the global future of K-pop.
According to reports on March 10, JYP Entertainment announced that Park Jin Young will resign from his internal director position and will not seek reappointment at the company’s shareholders’ meeting scheduled for March 26. The unexpected decision comes roughly six months after he was appointed co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee under President Lee Jae Myung.

Last September, the presidential office confirmed Park Jin Young’s appointment through chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik, describing the veteran artist as “one of Korea’s representative singers who has long contributed to the globalization of K-pop.” The administration expressed hope that his involvement would help expand cultural exchanges and allow Korean popular culture to flourish on a broader international stage.
Park Jin Young also addressed the appointment through social media, acknowledging that accepting a government role was not an easy decision for someone working in the entertainment industry. “Taking on government work felt burdensome and worrying in many ways,” he wrote. “But K-pop is currently facing an extraordinary opportunity, and I felt we must seize it.”
The producer further emphasized that his experience working directly in the industry could help highlight the need for stronger institutional support. He said he intends to help develop effective systems that provide better opportunities for younger artists and enable K-pop to take another leap forward globally.

His activities quickly extended beyond Korea’s borders. In November last year, Park Jin Young attended a Korea–China state banquet as co-chair of the cultural exchange committee, where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping. After the meeting, the singer shared on social media that he was honored to speak with the Chinese leader and expressed hope that popular culture could bring people from both countries closer together.
The move also aligns with remarks Park Jin Young previously made on variety programs, where he revealed that he had already mapped out a five-year roadmap for the future of K-pop. Known as the producer behind numerous K-pop stars and hit songs, he has long been regarded as one of the industry’s most influential figures.

Although he is stepping down from the internal leadership role at JYP Entertainment, Park Jin Young is not leaving the company entirely. Instead, he plans to focus on creative work as an artist, mentoring younger performers, and expanding external activities related to the K-pop industry.
Debuting in 1994, Park Jin Young has spent more than 30 years working as a singer, songwriter, and producer. While he is relinquishing his position as an internal director, his efforts to shape the global future of K-pop appear far from over, with fans and industry insiders closely watching what his next move will be.
