On April 13 (local time), the Cannes Film Festival Secretariat held an official press conference in Paris, France to announce the official invitation list for the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Kim Chang-hoon’s action noir film “Hwaran” (produced by Sanai Pictures and Haistory) was among the notable works announced.

“Hwaran” tells the story of a boy who wants to escape from the hellish reality and meets a mid-boss of an organization, embarking on a perilous journey together. Song Joong-ki, who rose to stardom through the JTBC drama “Reborn Rich,” took on the role of the mid-boss, Chigon, and newcomer Hong Sa-bin appeared as the protagonist, Yeon-gyu, attracting attention.

The Cannes Film Festival’s notable section introduces 20 distinctive and original works from various regions and cultures. This section has garnered a lot of attention since 2021 as it invites promising young directors.

“Hwaran,” which has successfully made it to the Cannes Film Festival, is Song Joong-ki’s first film invited to the prestigious event, and it is expected to receive a lot of attention in Korea.
