Song Joong-ki Mentions His ‘Affectionate Husband & Father’ Image, “I Won’t Disclose My Son”
“My Name Is Loh Kiwan” Song Joong-ki expressed his worries about disclosing stories related to his son
On the morning of March 6th, Song Joong-ki, the lead actor in the Netflix movie “My Name Is Loh Kiwan”, had an interview at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
“My Name Is Loh Kiwan” tells about Loh Kiwan (Song Joong-ki), a North Korean defector who moves to Belgium with the last hope of his life, and Marie (Choi Sung-eun), a woman who has lost her will to live, falling in love with each other. In this movie, Song Joong-ki took on the role of Loh Kiwan, who struggles to get approved as a refugee in Belgium. Portraying a wild appearance as Chigeon, the middle boss of an organization, in last year’s movie “Hwaran”, the actor attempted another drastic transformation as a North Korean defector in “My Name Is Loh Kiwan”.
Song Joong-ki faced big changes in his life while filming “My Name Is Loh Ki-wan”. In January last year, he announced his romance with British actress Katy Louise Saunders then their marriage and Katy’s pregnancy at the same time. In June, he delivered the news of his first son’s birth. Playing the role of a desperate character Loh Kiwan during his happiest time in life, Song Joong-ki kept moving back and forth between extreme emotions.
In the interview on the previous day, director Kim Hee-jin commented, “I think Song Joong-ki’s marriage and the birth of his son actually influenced his performance in the movie positively. I think Song Joong-ki’s condition and mind were very relaxed, and in that state, I felt like he could do even more”.
In this regard, Song Joong-ki said, “My wife was pregnant so she was always with me during my shoot. From the perspective of the team members, they felt comfortable with her being by my side all the time. I actually felt the same. I’m not a person who has emotional ups and downs in my daily life and I try to maintain my state like that.”
Regarding his image of an affectionate husband and father, the actor said, “Personally, nothing has changed since I became the breadwinner of my family. I don’t even know that I have such an image. It’s just my daily life. I don’t even know it has become an image. I’m just enjoying my happy life”, adding “I don’t feel burdened when disclosing my personal life, but I’m worrying about the attention”
However, Song Joong-ki continued, “After my son was born, I thought, ‘I hope my baby was not revealed in public’, and felt a little burdened. It’s because of the job I’m doing. I can’t show you everything about my daily life because that’s my privacy. I have several considerations and worries when it comes to the baby“, adding “I don’t know what image I’m having and I don’t care much about that”.
Meanwhile, “My Name Is Loh Kiwan” premiered on Netflix on March 1st.
