At the press conference for JTBC’s upcoming Friday drama My Youth, held on September 4 in Seoul, actors Song Joong-ki and Chun Woo-hee expressed confidence in their on-screen romance, highlighting their strong chemistry and natural compatibility.
Director Lee Sang-yeob, along with cast members Song Joong-ki, Chun Woo-hee, Lee Joo-myung, and Seo Ji-hoon, attended the event.
Described as an “emotional romance,” My Youth follows Sun Woo-hae (played by Song Joong-ki), a former child star turned florist and secret novelist, and Sung Jae-yeon (played by Chun Woo-hee), his first love who disrupts his seemingly peaceful life.
Director Lee explained: “The story focuses on thirty-somethings who meet people from their past, reflect on themselves, overcome scars, and grow. Unlike typical rom-coms, this drama emphasizes the deeper emotions of love.”
Song Joong-ki shared his excitement about returning to a grounded role: “Melodramas have always been the genre I crave the most. I was thrilled when I read the script—it had been a long time since I felt those butterflies. My previous works included fantastical elements like werewolves and space travel, but this time I’m playing a realistic and everyday character. That made me both excited and happy.”

He also praised Chun Woo-hee, saying: “Even the staff told us that our ‘visual chemistry’ is strong, which is the best compliment for a romance drama. I really value my partner’s energy in romantic roles, and I truly believe we look good together.”
Chun Woo-hee, who plays an ambitious management team leader, echoed his thoughts: “Our acting chemistry was just as strong as our visuals. Sometimes people on set said we looked like siblings, which made me realize how much we resemble each other. He’s very proactive on set, always at the center of things, and he listens to my opinions carefully. That gave me confidence.”

Reflecting on her role, she added: “I discovered that melodrama really suits me. I’ve often done genre works, but while filming My Youth, I wondered why I hadn’t taken on more romance projects before. Melodrama feels like my true element.”
My Youth follows JTBC’s The Innocent Man and will premiere on September 5 at 8:50 PM KST.
With Song Joong-ki and Chun Woo-hee already being praised as a “visual dream team,” anticipation for their romantic chemistry is at its peak.
