Son Ye-jin and Park Min-young praised for ‘saving’ JTBC while Jisoo mentioned for being ‘helpless’
After a year of low-rated productions, JTBC has been off to a good start in 2022 thanks to 2 new dramas led by Son Ye Jin and Park Min Young.
In February 2022, cable network JTBC launched 2 new dramas, “Thirty Nine” and “Forecasting Love and Weather” starring popular actresses such as Son Ye Jin and Park Min Young. As both dramas are doing well, both actresses are getting called the “rating saviors” of JTBC after a slump in viewership of JTBC’s dramas last year.
Specifically, “Forecasting Love and Weather” and “Thirty Nine” achieved a rating of 7.9% and 7.5% for its latest broadcast, respectively. These records not only prove the charm of both dramas but also mark the revival of JTBC dramas in 2022 after a year of stagnation with many low-rated series.
Some netizens even dragged JTBC’s recent drama “Snowdrop”, led by Jung Hae In and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo into the discussion, as it only earned an average rating of 2,738% throughout 16 episodes.
Needless to say, aside from the storylines, the cast’s popularity also contributes to the success of a drama. The presence of A-list actresses like Son Ye Jin and Park Min Young has undoubtedly strengthened the charm of “Thirty Nine” and “Forecasting Love and Weather”. BLACKPINK’s Jisoo is a famous idol but still an inexperienced rookie actress, so her playing the female lead does not mean high ratings are guaranteed. Not to mention, “Snowdrop” even got embroiled in controversy over alleged historical distortion at the beginning of its broadcast, causing many Korean viewers to boycott the drama.
Meanwhile, netizens are looking forward to the upcoming episodes of “Thirty Nine” and “Forecasting Love and Weather” and hoping that their ratings will continue to rise.
“Thirty-Nine” is a drama about the life and relationships of three 39-year-old women who are close friends. In particular, stories revolving around work, romance, etc. are intertwined, drawing great attention from female audiences. The drama is broadcast every Wednesday and Thursday night.
“Forecasting Love and Weather” depicts the love story of two office workers at Korea’s Meteorological Administration. Co-starring with Park Min Young is Song Kang. The drama airs every Saturday and Sunday night.
