SM artists couldn’t enter Billboard’s Hot 100, can “SM with HYBE” make a difference?

In terms of teams, there are Wonder Girls, BTS, BLACKPINK, NewJeans and TWICE. In terms of soloists, there are Psy, CL (2NE1), J-Hope, Agust D, Suga, Jungkook, Jin, RM, Jimin (BTS), Rosé, Lisa (BLACKPINK) and Taeyang (Big Bang).

In this list, you can easily see that there is no artist from SM Entertainment (SM), one of the so-called “Big 4” Korean agencies.

SM with HYBE

On the album chart “Billboard 200”, BoA, EXO, Jonghyun (SHINee), NCT, SuperM and aespa achieved good results to save SM’s face. However, SM artists seem to be struggling especially on Billboard’s “Hot 100”.

In this situation, voices expecting the combination of SM and HYBE are coming out little by little among K-pop fans. This is because SM lovers have no choice but to acknowledge HYBE at least in this respect.

HYBE has established itself as a K-pop leader in the North American music market, the mainstream pop market. Not only BTS, which produced 6 songs that topped Billboard’s “Hot 100”, but also new and old artists from each label, such as SEVENTEEN, TXT, LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans all grew rapidly and expanded their global influence under HYBE.

In fact, HYBE America’s CEO Lee Jae Sang expressed confidence in SM’s global growth strategy. CEO Lee, who is currently a candidate for SM’s internal director position, said, “With HYBE’s global top-class distribution and promotion network, fandom platform…, it’s possible to immediately provide real business synergy.”
