Singers Who Shone In 2023: BTS Surpasses BLACKPINK, No.1 Is?

The rankings of singers who brought about the most excellent performances in 2023 have been unveiled

On December 19th, Gallup Korea announced the results of the “Singers Who Shone In 2023” survey conducted on 5261 people aged 13 or older in South Korea (excluding Jeju) in July, September, October and November. People who participated in the survey could freely select up to three favorite Korean pop singers or groups who were active in 2023. 

As a result, ‘HYBE label’ ADOR’s girl group NewJeans, which debuted in July 2022 and gained huge attention for their refreshing and youthful style, topped the ranking voted by people in their 30s or younger with 25.7% of votes. The group jumped from fourth place last year to first place this year. 

BTS ranked second with 18.3%, followed by No.3 IVE (17%), No.4 IU (16.1%), No.5 BLACKPINK (12.7%), No.6 AKMU (7.4%), No.7 Lim Young-woong (7.1%), No.8 Jungkook (5.6%), and No.9 (G)I-DLE & aespa (5.5%).

Apart from TOP 10, other singers and groups, such as SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, Hwasa, Sung Si-kyung, Younha, Jennie, MeloMance, NCT, Lee Mu-jin, EXO, etc., were also mentioned

Among those in their 40s and older, Lim Young-woong earned the most votes with 37.8%. As such, he continued to maintain his No.1 position for the fourth consecutive year. Emerging as a blue chip in the performance, broadcasting, and advertising industries, the male singer has gathered a strong fanbase and completed a sold-out national concert tour this year.

Led by Lim Young-woong, the Top 10 for people aged 40 and older includes No.2 Jang Youn-jung (12.7%), No.3 Youngtak (11.8%), No.4 Lee Chan-won (11.3%), No.5 Na Hoon-ah (9.5%), No.6 Song Ga-in (9.1%), No.7 Jinsung (7.9%), No.8 Kim Ho-joong (7.4%), No.9 (Jang Dong-won (5.4%) and No.10 Jang Min-ho (5.1%).

Out of Top 10, BTS, IU, BLACKPINK, Lee Moon-se, Jo Yong-pil, NewJeans, Ahn Sung-hoon, etc. are other singers favored by this age group.

In addition, the “2023 Song of the Year” ranking showed NewJeans’s “Super Shy” and Lim Young-woong’s “Love Always Run Away” as the most popular songs voted by the two age groups, respectively.
