Seventeen Deleted Teaser Featuring The Great Wall of China + Apologized For Lack Of Cultural Understanding

Seventeen apologized after controversy erupted after they released a teaser video set against the Great Wall of China

“The Beijing version was made with chamomile flowers in the background of the Great Wall, a representative cultural heritage symbolizing China, but fans pointed out that there was a lack of cultural understanding and respect for the Great Wall after the video was released,” the group’s agency Pledis Entertainment said on its official social media on September 24th.

Seventeen’s agency added , “The Beijing version video was quickly deleted. We apologize for the inconvenience to our fans, and we will pay more attention in the future.”

Earlier, the teaser video of the Beijing version of “SVT RIGHT HERE,” one of the promotional contents of Seventeen’s 11th mini album “SEVENTEEN HEAVEN” caused controvesies. This is because China prohibits filming and directing against the backdrop of cultural heritage such as the Great Wall.

In response, Pledis Entertainment quickly deleted the video and apologized, saying, “We will try to create content that fans from various countries, regions, and various cultures can enjoy together in the future.”

Seventeen’s comeback comes about six months after the release of its 10th mini album “FML” in April. “FML” surpassed 6.2 million cumulative sales in about two months, setting a new record for SEVENTEEN’s own record sales, as well as a new record for K-pop albums (based on a single album).

Seventeen’s 11th mini album “Seventeen Heaven,” whose name means “the state of being very happy,” will be released on October 23 at 6 p.m.
