Seven of 10 most-sold albums in the US in 2023 are K-pop albums

Recently, Chart Data released statistics on the 10 best-selling albums in the United States last year. Notably, 7 out of the top 10 albums were Kpop, while the remaining 3 belonged to Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” claimed the top spot in the Chart Data’s list of the best-selling albums in the U.S. in 2023, selling 800,000 copies. The re-recorded album achieved numerous unprecedented milestones, contributing to Taylor Swift’s explosive year on all fronts. TWICE, the only third-generation girl group entered the chart

The biggest surprise came from JYP’s boy group, Stray Kids. Despite modest domestic achievements, Stray Kids proved their international stature with massive purchases from the fan community. As the most famous fourth-generation boy group in the U.S., Stray Kids had 2 albums in the top ranks: “5-Star,” with sales of 520,000 copies, secured the #2 position, and “Rock Star,” with 381,000 copies, claimed the #4 spot. Additionally, TWICE, the only third-generation girl group, and the second artist from JYP, secured the #6 position with their debut English album “Ready to Be,” selling 303,000 copies in the U.S.

Following BTS’s success, HYBE continued to expand its influence in the North American market. Among the top 10 best-selling albums in the U.S. in 2023, the emerging entertainment conglomerate had 4 albums in the list: #3 TXT – “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION” with 442,000 copies, #5 NewJeans – “Get Up” with 332,000 copies, #7 SEVENTEEN – “FML” with 288,000 copies, and finally, Jung Kook closed the list at #10 with “Golden,” selling 244,000 copies.

Jung Kook emerges as the solo artist with the most breakthrough achievements in the top rankings.

TXT’s sales have left the public in awe. NewJeans and SEVENTEEN continue their streak of achievements from domestic to international. Particularly, despite being ranked behind several fourth-generation groups, Jung Kook stands out as the solo artist with the most remarkable breakthrough, being the only solo idol to make it to the top. Moreover, considering that the album “Golden” was released towards the end of the year (November 3, 2023) with a short accumulation period, it’s not surprising that the youngest member of BTS ranks at #10.
