Seungri Celebrates 1st Birthday After Release From Prison, Lavish Party in Thailand

Former BIGBANG member Seungri spent his 1st birthday after his prison sentence in Thailand

On December 13, photos from Seungri’s birthday party were revealed on a social media account. In particular, a Thai singer and actor published several photos along with the caption, “Say Happy 33rd Birthday to my boy, SEUNGRI! All the best to u bratha! Love loads always”, alongside some emojis.

Although Seungri’s official registered birthday is in January, his actual birthday is on December 12. The aforementioned photos were taken at a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, where numerous Thai celebrities and Japanese actors gathered. Seungri is seen holding a cake, presumably prepared by them, with a bright smile. There are also images of him cutting the cake and cheering with the party attendees.

Due to his involvement in the “Burning Sun” scandal, Seungri served prison time.

At the time, Seungri was accused of arranging prostitution multiple times for investors from Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, and so on, to attract investment for clubs and financial investment businesses from December 2015 to January of the following year. He was also charged with embezzling about 528 million won (approx 400,000 USD) from the Burning Sun club and misappropriating 22 million won (approx 17,000 USD) from Yuri Holdings under the guise of personal attorney fees for employees.

In addition, he spent approximately 2.2 billion won (approx 1.7 million USD) on gambling from December 2013 to August 2017 in hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, USA, and violated foreign exchange laws by engaging in currency transactions during the process of borrowing chips worth $1 million as gambling funds.

Seungri’s legal troubles also included an incident in December 2015. At the time, while drinking at a pub in Gangnam, Seoul, he learned of a dispute between his acquaintance and another customer. He informed Yoo In-seok, the husband of actress Park Han-byul and former CEO of Yuri Holdings, who then mobilized gang members, threatened, and assaulted the customer. These various crimes were detailed in nine different charges in his court verdict.

Seungri attempted to evade the scandals by starting his military service, but he was later investigated in the military. After serving a pending prison period in the military, Seungri was transferred to civilian prison on August 12, 2021. He was released in February after serving one year and six months of his prison term.
