Seo Ye-ji’s comeback work “Eve” faces a setback even before its start

Drama “Eve”, which is drawing attention as it marks Seo Ye-ji’s return, is not doing well right ahead of its release.

From not holding a press conference to a lack of promotions, “Eve” is making Seo Ye-ji’s name become taboo.

tvN’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Eve” announced, “Due to the schedules for the filming and preparation of the second half of the drama, the production presentation press conference cannot be held”, adding, “In order to enhance the quality of the drama, the first episode will be postponed from May 25th to June 1st.”

“Eve” has drawn attention since the early stage of production as it is known to be the comeback work of Seo Ye-ji, who was previously caught up in various controversies. In particular, Seo Ye-ji suspended her activities after being embroiled in several allegations, including gaslighting her ex-lover – actor Kim Jung-hyun, forgery of academic background, and power abuse.

Drama production teams often invite reporters to press conferences and introduce their dramas ahead of the first broadcast. It is considered one of the most important promotional activities for a new drama release. Therefore, Seo Ye-ji was also expected to make her first appearance in public after a long time at the press conference for “Eve”. However, contrary to expectations, “Eve” decided to cancel the press conference.

In a similar case in the past, the controversial actor was absent from the press conference and let the production team and other actors attend the event to explain the situation. Seo Ye-ji did not appear on any entertainment shows to promote “Eve”. In fact, only actors Park Byung-eun and Lee Sang-yeop guested on tvN’s entertainment show “Amazing Saturday”, which aired on May 21st. On the broadcast, Park Byung-eun said, “I play the Chairman. This is a drama about the life of a woman who turns a family upside down. There is a scene where Lee Sang-yeop and I take off our tops”, creating the awkward situation in which the female lead Seo Ye-ji was not even mentioned.

All these things, including the cancellation of “Eve” press conference and the absence of Seo Ye-ji’s name on entertainment programs, can be interpreted as the intention to hide the controversial female lead Seo Ye-ji from the public.

Following the press conference for the movie “Recalled” and the Baeksang Arts Awards, this is the third time Seo Ye-ji was absent from public events. The production team of “Eve”, who said they would join the competition with their work content and the actors’ acting skills, and Seo Ye-ji seem to have lost the viewers’ trust even before the broadcast of its first episode.
