“Romcom Kings” Ahn Bo Hyun and Lee Jun Ho will face off on the small screen for the first time.
tvN’s “See You in My 19th Life”, starring Ahn Bo Hyun, tells a reincarnation romance that unfolds when Ban Ji Eun (Shin Hye Sun), who can remember her past lives, begins to find Moon So Ha (Ahn Bo Hyun), the person she must meet again, in her 19th life. It is based on the original webtoon of the same name by Lee Hey.
Ahn Bo Hyun plays second-generation chaebol Moon Seo Ha, who cannot forget his first love. The actor is expected to showcase the pure-hearted charm of a new male lead image that is different from his previous role in “Military Prosecutor Doberman”.
In particular, Ahn Bo Hyun revealed that he lost 8kg in order to synchronize with the character Moon Seo Ha. Moon Seo Ha leads a lonely life due to his tragic family history and an incident he experienced in during childhood. In fact, Moon Seo Ha is portrayed as a character who looks weak and sick in the webtoon version.
At the press conference for “See You in My 19th Life”, Ahn Bo Hyun confessed, “I felt burdened about acting in a webtoon-based drama. I tried my best to follow the original character as much as possible, and I also needed to erase the strong image from my previous work (Military Prosecutor Doberman). That’s why I lost weight.”
Owning a tall height of 187cm and a muscular body, Ahn Bo Hyun underwent strict self-management for his character this time. Fans are looking forward to seeing whether Ahn Bohyun’s efforts to become Moon Seo Ha in all aspects, from his gestures to his gaze and voice, will pay off.
On the same day (June 17th), Lee Jun Ho also returns to the small screen through JTBC’s “King the Land”. It is a romantic comedy in which Goo Won (Lee Jun Ho), a man who hates smiles, and “smile queen” Cheon Sa Rang (Lim Yoon Ah), who has to smile all day, create a day where they can genuinely laugh in the VVIP lounge “King the Land”, the dream of all hoteliers.
As a third-generation chaebol, Goo Won hates fake smiles. That’s why he has never truly felt love and he even distances himself from love. However, after meeting Cheon Sa Rang, he gradually changes and realizes the power of true love. The production team stated, “Lee Jun Ho’s unique affectionate energy highlights the rough and lovely side of Goo Won even more.”
“King the Land” is currently a hot topic, not only due to the high anticipation for the visual chemistry of Lee Jun Ho and Lim Yoon Ah but also the continuous success of JTBC dramas.
Starting with “Reborn Rich”, JTBC has continuously achieved high viewership records with “Agency”, “Divorce Attorney Shin”, and “Doctor Cha”. In particular, the recently ended drama “Doctor Cha” recorded the highest rating of 18.5%. The lead actress Um Jung Hwa also ranked first in the popularity chart for drama cast.
Moreover, “King the Land” is also Lee Jun Ho’s comeback project. It marks his return to the small screen after the popular MBC drama “Red Sleeve Sleeve” in 2021. With the huge success of “The Red Sleeve”, Lee Jun Ho won Best Actor in the TV category at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards and Top Excellence Award for Actor in the Miniseries category at the 8th APAN Star Awards.
Although Lee Jun Ho is more pressured than anyone else, he approached “King the Land” with a confident attitude. When asked if he had any promises regarding viewership ratings at the press conference, Lee Jun Ho replied, “I once asked JTBC’s CEO to send the team on an overseas trip if the ratings reach 20%, but I haven’t thought about making and fulfilling any personal promise. Rather than doing what I want, I want to listen to what the viewers want.”
Both Ahn Bo Hyun and Lee Jun Ho will appear in their new dramas on different broadcasting stations as second-generation chaebols. Ahn Bo Hyun made significant efforts for his image transformation, while Lee Jun Ho will demonstrate his reputation as an idol actor. There is only one day left until the two join the competition with “See You in My 19th Life” and “King the Land”.
