“He’s from a rich family so he donated 5.5 billion won?” Sean dismissed rumors of his generous donations with Jung Hye Young
Jinusean’s Sean revealed the secret behind the donation of 5.5 billion won.
Sean appeared as a guest on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block“, which aired on Nov 23rd.
Sean has been spreading good influence for the past 17 years as a leading goodwill angel in the entertainment industry. Sean, who has recently been called a “social worker” or “donation angel”, smilingly said, “I call myself a ‘hip hop singer’ wherever I go.”
In 2018, Sean led many stars such as Daniel Henney and Park Bo Gum to participate in the Ice Bucket Challenge for patients with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
What motivated Sean to start donating? Sean shared, “Don’t you think we should donate if we make a lot of money? I also lived with that thought.”
“I was really happy about my wedding with Jung Hye Young. So, the day after our wedding day, I told my wife, ‘If we propose something big, it may not be sustainable, so let’s share only 10,000 won a day for the rest of our lives, and my wife readily agreed. That’s how she donated the money she saved for a year to a homeless organization and started volunteering.”
Sean and his wife also canceled the savings they had saved to buy a house for donation. Sean said, “My wife is meeting a child she is sponsoring in the Philippines, and when she saw that the child’s life was changing with 35,000 won a month, she said, the money will go out, so let’s put down our dreams for a while and invest in the children’s dreams. That’s how we started sponsoring 100 people.”
When asked, “Some say, ‘How rich are Sean and Jung Hye Young, so they can support them that much?” Sean said, “There were many theories, like I’m the son of a rich family. But that’s not it. I became independent of an ordinary family very early.”
He added, “I lived hard, and many opportunities arose. Just because you can’t see it on TV doesn’t mean I don’t work. I came to live harder for those children. I see them as my own children,” receiving applause.
Two years ago, Sean’s total donation amounted to 5.5 billion won. When asked, “Aren’t you surprised to see the amount of donation piled up yourself?“, Sean answered honestly, “I’m surprised too.”
He made a meaningful remark, saying, “Repetition of small things creates incredibly great things.”
