Manchester United fans erupted on social media following manager Ruben Amorim’s post-match interview after the club’s shocking Carabao Cup elimination.
United’s nightmare start to the 2025/26 season continued when they were knocked out by League Two side Grimsby Town. The game ended 2-2 in regulation before United fell 12-11 in a dramatic penalty shootout on August 28.

In his interview with Sky Sports, Amorim admitted his frustration: “In the end, it doesn’t matter if we recover or not—it’s about the signals the team showed throughout the match, especially at the start. I think the only team that deserved to win was them. Today’s performance said everything.”
However, Amorim’s words triggered alarm among fans, who interpreted his comments as a sign he may have lost control of the dressing room.
One fan reacted: “What does Amorim mean by ‘the players made it very clear with their performance’? Has he lost the dressing room? Are the players betraying him?” Another added, “After hearing that interview, I think Amorim has given up. The players aren’t listening to him anymore.”

Others voiced frustration over his handling of the squad: “Amad has lost all his confidence. I don’t understand what Amorim is doing to cause such a decline.”
The speculation has fueled growing doubts about the Portuguese manager’s future at Old Trafford, with some even suggesting that he could resign.
Manchester United will attempt to bounce back when they face Burnley at Old Trafford on August 30 in the Premier League.
