BLACKPINK’s Rosé has surprised fans by opening up about the unusually extreme measures she once took to avoid being photographed while dating her ex-boyfriend. Speaking candidly in a recent interview, the singer recalled how her fear of paparazzi especially Dispatch pushed her into what she jokingly called a full-on “grandma disguise era.”
Rosé admitted that at the time, she was convinced she could never be seen in public with a man. The anxiety became so intense that she began ordering disguises online, including a short, black curly wig, and carefully observing how elderly women dressed on the streets of Korea. She studied everything from their skirts and shoes to their bags, then recreated the look herself to blend in as much as possible.
Because the couple couldn’t go out together at all, Rosé explained that she would travel to her boyfriend’s house in disguise. Knowing that Dispatch often catches celebrities near each other’s homes, she felt this was the safest way to avoid attention. She even joked that she would head out dressed like an older woman just in case someone recognized her.

The disguises weren’t a one-time thing. Rosé revealed that she committed to the act so thoroughly that she eventually had an entire section in her home dedicated to “grandma clothes.” Light blue, floral long skirts filled her closet, all chosen to cover her features and help her disappear into the crowd. According to Rosé, the phase lasted long enough that it became almost routine.
Interestingly, the effort wasn’t one-sided. She shared that her then-boyfriend also leaned into the secrecy, dressing more “grandpa-like” when visiting her though not quite to the same extreme. While he skipped the wig, Rosé joked that she even practiced imitating the way elderly people walked to make her disguise more convincing.
The story, equal parts shocking and amusing, gave fans a rare glimpse into the intense pressure idols face to protect their private lives. Rosé’s honesty highlighted just how far celebrities sometimes go to maintain normal relationships away from the cameras, even if it means temporarily living life as someone completely unrecognizable.
