“Refrain from bragging photos during mourning period” Netizens’ mixed reactions to an actress’ post

There was a heated debate online over actress Noh Hyun-hee’s request “Don’t hang out, take and post pictures to brag about yourselves during the mourning period”.

Noh Hyun-hee wrote on her Facebook on Nov 1st, “Young lives, precious youths turned their backs on the world without even blooming. As if they weren’t affected. ‘It’s not my business, as long as it’s not me’.”

Noh Hyun-hee continued, “It’s natural to have to handle each of the promised schedules, meetings and gatherings, but they posted pictures taken when hanging out, drinking and smiling brightly in party clothes. I can’t help but see these pictures on social media. I can’t hide my discomfort.”

Noh Hyun-hee went on to say, “What if we self-reflect during the mourning period? I hope we can mourn together, be sad together and overcome this difficult time together.”

She requested, “Please be careful about uploading pictures and videos at the time of the accident. I hope you look at the bereaved families and acquaintances, who have been traumatized by the disaster, change your position and think about how they will feel whenever they see it (the accident scene).”

There were mixed reactions to this post. Some netizens agreed “You’re right. I’ll be careful”, but some netizens protested, “This kind of forced mourning rather creates antipathy.”

As the controversy grew, Noh Hyun-hee told Xports News on Nov 2nd, “I wrote this post because I wanted everyone to feel pain and mourn with death, but I’m sorry that it was misunderstood. I just posted my personal opinion as I was sad to see that people couldn’t endure the mourning period and pursue only their own pleasure.”
