Career

Tzuyu rose to fame at a very young age after being discovered by a talent scout at the MUSE Art Workshop in Tainan, Taiwan. She was formally trained to become a singer at JYPE since 2012. Park Jin Young, at that time, evaluated her as the most progressive among the 16 trainees.

After over 2 years of training, Tzuyu participated in the South Korean reality show Sixteen in 2015. From this point on, her talent was officially recognized. She became the most voted member online and eventually was selected as the 8th member of the girl group Twice.

She officially debuted with the group in October 2015. Tzuyu’s artistic journey has officially entered a new chapter.

Scandals/ Controversies

In 2015, the idol found herself embroiled in a political scandal when she held the Taiwanese flag during an appearance on the show “My Little Television.” This action inadvertently sparked outrage in China, with many accusing Tzuyu of showing support for Taiwanese independence. Despite her management company’s explanation that the idol had never spoken or taken any actions that influenced politics, many still accused her of profiting from activities in China while openly supporting Taiwan as an independent country (not part of China). The incident caused JYP’s stock to plummet, and Tzuyu faced the cancellation of numerous advertising contracts and the risk of leaving Twice.

It seemed like everything was just a “rough start,” but in March of the same year, she found herself embroiled in controversy again for wearing a shirt with a sensitive slogan on the show “Inkigayo.”

Furthermore, many criticized the youngest member of Twice for the “overdone” event of bringing along a “entourage” of 44 people, including 35 police officers and 9 company personnel, back to Taiwan for her middle school graduation exam.
