‘BTS & TXT’s producer’ Jung Bobby arrested in court on charges of illegal filming, “No self-reflection. The victim demands harsh punishment”
Producer Jung Bobby was imprisoned on charges of illegally filming the body of his ex-lover.
On the morning of December 14th, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 6 (Judge Gong Seong Bong) sentenced Jung Bobby, producer and former member of indie band Autumn Vacation, to one year in prison for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming and distributing illegal content using cameras, etc.) and assaulting.
He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a treatment program for sexual violence as well as 5 years of restrictions on employment at children/teenager-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled.
The judge said, “The defendant claimed that he did not do anything against the will of the victim. However, the victim revealed that she consistently disagreed with the filming in her statement, and we found no motive for the victim to make a false statement. The defendant illegally filmed the victim’s face, neck, and shoulder without her consent”, adding, “The victim is extremely traumatized by the shame of being sexually assaulted, and she demands a harsh punishment for the perpetrator.”
Regarding the reason for the sentence, the judge said, “We took into account the fact that filming content has yet to be distributed and that the defendant has no history of being punished for the same crime”.
Earlier in the hearing held on October 19th, the prosecution proposed an imprisonment sentence of three and a half years, saying “The second victim appeared after the death of the first victim, but he didn’t reflect on his wrongdoing at all”.
At that time, Jung Bobby insisted on ‘not guilty’ in his final defense, saying “It’s true that I took videos when meeting the victim with good feelings, but I’ve never filmed anything without her knowing. I’ve never filmed anything against the victim’s will”.
Earlier in May 2020, Jung Bobby was accused of filming the body of aspiring singer B without her consent and sexually assaulting her. B ended her life with an extreme choice after exposing Jung Bobby’s crime. At that time, B left her last words, saying “I suffered pain and was hurt by a person”.
In November 2020, the police charged Jung Bobby with violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes and dismissed the charges of raping and causing injuries due to lack of evidence, then sent him to the prosecution. The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office dropped the case in January last year. Later, ex-lover A also sued Jung Bobby, claiming that she was assaulted by him.
