According to reports citing HK01, on January 14, the Chongqing Municipal Tax Bureau announced that it uncovered tax irregularities involving Peng Shiliu (real name Peng Xuanzhi), a content creator with more than 30 million followers on Douyin.

Authorities revealed that from 2021 to 2023, Peng Shiliu’s videos averaged around one million likes per post, reflecting consistently high engagement and stable income. However, during the same three-year period, the total amount of tax she self-reported and paid was less than 1.6 million yuan.

Due to the significant mismatch between her massive online traffic and her declared income, tax officials suspected concealed earnings and initiated a formal investigation.

Following verification, Peng Shiliu was found to have underpaid multiple taxes, including personal income tax and value-added tax, with the evaded amount totaling 2.16 million yuan. As a result, authorities ordered back taxes, late fees, and administrative penalties, bringing the total payable amount to 4.15 million yuan. Officials confirmed that the full amount has since been collected and submitted to the national treasury.

As of now, Peng Shiliu’s accounts on Weibo, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, and other major platforms display notices stating that the user has been banned for violating laws and platform policies.

Born in 1999 in Zhejiang Province, Peng Shiliu is a singer, actress, and livestreamer who rose to fame through elaborate cosplay videos inspired by the Chinese Paladin franchise. Her content regularly garnered millions of likes and tens of thousands of comments, making her one of the earliest and most influential Douyin “hot girls.”

With delicate features, expressive eyes, a sweet voice, and a versatile on-screen presence, Peng cultivated a fairy-like image that earned her the nickname the goddess of historical costumes. Her popularity was so intense that one fan reportedly traveled more than 3,000 kilometers from Xinjiang to Beijing just to deliver her a birthday gift in person.

Peng Shiliu was also recognized as a pioneer of Douyin beauty and transformation trends, influencing countless creators with her visual style.

Peng Shiliu’s case adds to a growing list of Chinese influencers and celebrities facing strict penalties amid China’s ongoing crackdown on tax evasion in the entertainment and livestreaming industries. Once celebrated as a top-tier online star, she now faces an indefinite suspension from the platforms that built her fame.
