Park Sul-nyeo criticized Han Hye-jin’s pictorial taken at Cheong Wa Dae…”Is that Hanbok?”

Hanbok designer Park Sul-nyeo expressed her thoughts about the collaboration between Cheong Wa Dae, which was recently opened to the public, and the fashion magazine “Vogue Korea”.

In an interview with MBC News on August 28th, Park Sul-nyeo said, “If you wear a western dress and Korean flower shoes, is that Hanbok? I’d like to say exactly that it is regrettable, sad and heartbreaking to take photos of such clothes in a symbolic place.”

Earlier on August 22nd, Vogue Korea released a pictorial called “Cheong Wa Dae and Fashion!”.

In the pictorial, models Han Hye-jin, Kim Won-kyung, Kim Sung-hee, Oh Song-hwa and Lee Ae-ri are posing in various costumes with Cheong Wa Dae as the background.

In particular, the models in the pictorial drew attention by showing their intense charm in costumes that matched Hanbok elements such as full-dress attire, socks, traditional ornaments and traditional jackets.

However, former presidential protocol secretary Tak Hyun-min pointed out on Facebook, “Cheong Wa Dae, an important symbolic space in Korean history, was closed without the consent of the majority of the people. Not only was it closed, but it was historically cut off by paving the space as a bluff of openness. No one has ever given these powers.”

In addition, it was revealed that the pictorial also included the costumes of Ryunosuke Okazaki, the representative designer of the avant-garde in Japan, sparking further controversy.

Currently, Vogue Korea deleted the pictorial. The deleted background and whether it will be republished are not known.
