tvN’s “Alchemy of Souls” once again made headlines with the recent issue related to its female lead. Suffering from the controversy over the female lead’s acting skills, it faces character changes this time.
“Alchemy of Souls” is a work created by Hong Sisters, Hong Jeong-eun and Hong Mi-ran, who were behind the success of dramas “The Greatest Love”, “Master’s Sun”, “A Korean Odyssey” and “Hotel Del Luna”. The drama attracted keen attention from the production stage as it is known to tell the unique story of young warriors dealing with celestial spirits.
The choice of the female lead actress was controversial. Park Hye-eun, who greeted the viewers through Netflix’s “The School Nurse Files” last year, won the lead role. However, Park Eun-hye suddenly confessed her burden. In the end, she made a bold move to drop out of the project.
At that time, Park Hye-eun’s side and the production crew of “Alchemy of Souls” said to OSEN, “Park Hye-eun prepared hard even though she was a new actress, but she recently felt the pressure of leading such a big drama project as the female lead”.
In other words, an unexpected variable of female lead replacement happened before the drama’s full-fledged shooting. The production crew then looked for a new actress and ended up choosing Jung So-min, who had received recognition for her acting skills, rather than a rookie.
Director Park Joon-hwa of “Alchemy of Souls” and Jung So-min worked together on tvN’s “Because This Is My First Life” in 2017. With this work, Jung So-min was reborn as a “Cute Fairy”, earning a lot of love from viewers for her outstanding acting skills.
The reunion of the two can be said to be perfect, with Jung So-min perfectly delivering the role of Mu-deok, while at the same time boasting an overflowing chemistry with Lee Jae-wook, who assumes the role of Jang-wook.
