Actress Park Gyu Young revealed her ambitions and feelings about joining the “Squid Game 2” project.
Park Gyu Young appeared on the August 6th broadcast of JTBC’s “Newsroom” and had an interview.
Regarding Netflix’s “Celebrity”, which marks her first solo lead role in 7 years since her debut, Park Gyu Young said, “I felt really pressured and there was a great sense of responsibility so I stayed highly focused on every shoot. Since the director liked the results so much, I also felt proud. Personally, having my face shown on the poster that big was one of the most exciting things.”
When asked if she knew about the enthusiastic responses of Korean and overseas viewers, Park Gyu Young shared, “I was amazed to see reactions in many different languages. I used a translation app to read them all”, adding “I showcased many stylings through the character Seo Ah Ri and I was very happy to receive good feedback on that”, expressing her gratitude towards viewers.
Revealing that the hardest part during the filming of “Celebrity” was the scene where she read malicious comments, Park Gyu Young confessed, “In real life, there are things you can ignore and things you need to acknowledge, but as a character, I’ve never encountered that many malicious comments. Filming that scene was not easy at all.”
Park Gyu Young also mentioned her appearance in “Squid Game 2” following Netflix’s series “Sweet Home” and “Celebrity”. Regarding the filming process, she said, “To tell you in detail, there are difficult parts but I’m enjoying the filming”.
She continued, “I think the production team is working passionately with a great sense of responsibility. I’m also trying to work hard to not fall behind and present a good performance that can reflect our passion and responsibility”.
Park Gyu Young added, “I didn’t know the feedback I received the most was that it looked similar to my character in the previous work. As an actress, I appreciate it and consider it a great blessing. I hope you also look forward to my new transformation in the next work”.
When asked about the kind of acting she wanted to challenge, the actress shared, “I think playing strong characters in works of different genres is very interesting. I also want to challenge a role that has a human side with a realistic story or a person living in a specific space”.
She added, “I don’t think I’m an impactful person, both as the ordinary Park Gyu Young or as actress Park Gyu Young. I want to be a person who can give a calm and comfortable feeling. I hope I will always keep my inner passion while doing this job”, expressing her affection for acting.
