Actress Park Eun-bin mentioned the controversy over filming site mismanagement of tvN’s drama “Castaway Diva”

Though her remark conveyed a sense of injustice, the public’s cold reaction continued.

On Dec 4th, Park Eun-bin conducted a round interview related to the conclusion of “Castaway Diva” at Namoo Actors’ office building in Cheongdam-dong, Seoul.

Recalling the drama’s controversy over filming site mismanagement, Park Eun-bin said, “It’s really unfortunate. There are facts beyond facts, and there are behind-the-scenes circumstances that the public is unaware of. It seems inevitable.

She added, “There are bound to be unfair situations for some people depending on their perspective. No one wanted to cause trouble intentionally. Everyone put in a lot of effort, but unforeseen events made things difficult for people.”

The controversy arose when it was alleged that the “Castaway Diva” team left piles of rocks that they had used for filming on a beach in Jeju. These rocks were suspected to be the ones used in the scene where the protagonist Seo Mok-ha (played by Park Eun-bin) sends an “SOS” signal with stones while living alone on a deserted island for 15 years, as shown in the episode that aired on Oct 28th.

Claims were made that the production team did not properly clean up the rocks after filming and left without doing so, leading to the controversy. There were also criticisms that the filming took place without proper cooperation and permits from the local administration.

Ultimately, the production team released a statement on Nov 14th. They stated, “We would like to express our deep apologies for any inconvenience caused to the citizens. Although we explained the filming details in advance to residents and relevant authorities, there were shortcomings in the process of execution and rectification. We will do our best to restore the situation as soon as possible.

While Park Eun-bin’s remark was meant to express a sense of regret, the public’s response was cold. Netizens criticized, “If it’s an inconvenience, it’s an inconvenience; why the need for excuses?“, “If you stay quiet, half will be forgiven. Why add words and make it worse?“, “Those who don’t know the situation are just absurd“…

Meanwhile, “Castaway Diva” starring Park Eun-bin concluded on Dec 3rd, achieving a viewership rating of 9% (based on Nielsen Korea nationwide households) for the last episode and helping to dispel the perception of tvN weekend dramas being lackluster.
