Oscar Winner Youn Yuh-jung said she would accept if “Parasite” director Bong Joon-ho offered her a role
Youn Yuh-jung talked about Bong Joon-ho on “You Quiz on the Block”
On the latest episode of tvN’s variety program “You Quiz on the Block,” which aired on the evening of March 23rd, actress Youn Yuh-jung appeared as a guest and talked about various things.
On the show, Youn Yuh-jung talked about what happened after she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 93rd Academy Awards. Earlier, Youn Yuh-jung became the first Korean actress to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie “Minari.”
Regarding the benefits given to Oscar winners, Youn Yuh-jung said, “I heard that I could get free accommodation if I went on a trip to Tahiti. But I don’t have any reason to go there. So I told the agency I wouldn’t accept (the gift),” adding, “I’m glad I did, they wouldn’t give me anyway,” making everyone laugh.
Youn Yuh-jung also said, “Director Bong Joon-ho knocked on the Academy door. I was lucky enough to enter the door with Jeong Isak. He showed humility about his award, saying, “We were lucky.”
In addition to the Academy Awards, Youn Yuh-jung won 42 acting awards for “Minari”. Regarding this, she said, “But I didn’t attend awards ceremonies. Director Bong Joon-ho told me to think that I was so lucky. They all said they had to attend events. Song Kang-ho said he had a nosebleed even when staying still”, making everyone laugh.
Youn Yuh-jung continued to talk about her trophies, saying, “I put them all in a cellar. But the Academy was stored in my living room. Choi Hwa-jung told me to bring it along when I met her. She said she wanted to gain good luck. But I told her it was heavy”, drawing attention.
Moreover, Youn Yuh-jung drew laughter as she said, “Director Bong Joon-ho doesn’t use me”. She added, “I’m saying this honestly”. In addition, when asked by Yoo Jae-seok, “If director Bong Joon-ho asked you to work with him, would you appear in his movie?”, Youn Yuh-jung made everyone laugh again by saying, “That’s Bong Joon-ho, I have to do it”.
