Opposite responses of Seulgi (Red Velvet) and Winter (aespa) when asked of NewJeans’ “Hype Boy”: All answers led to inevitable controversies 

Seulgi and Winter’s reactions were considered in a different light regarding the situations at their company. 

As the internal problems between SM go on coupled with the resistance from SM employees against HYBE’s “hostile takeover,” SM artists are also showing their reactions in different ways. Most recently, Seulgi (Red Velvet) and Winter (aespa) were caught in a controversy concerning how they responded to “Hybe Boy” by NewJeans. 

In a recent fan-meeting with fans for her birthday, when Seulgi was asked to do a “Hybe Boy” dance cover, she became flustered and declined the request, contrary to fans’ excitement, saying she did not want to “cause trouble.” Korean netizens criticized Seulgi for being “too straightforward” and was not “sophisticated” in her actions towards fans. 

In another development, Winter (aespa) casually mentioned the same song by NewJeans in an interview at the “Circle Chart Music Awards 2022.” When the interviewer asked which song she listened to recently, she answered “Hype Boy” by NewJeans. The answer received mixed reactions from fans. One side said she was not “considerate” concerning the tense relationship between the two, while the other regarded her answer as more “appropriate.” 

Despite opposite reactions, both Seulgi and Winter are receiving backlash due to the ongoing situation at the company.
