November 2023: The Month of Couples Breaking Up in Korea’s Entertainment Industry

In just 13 days, November is witnessing a surge in celebrity couples’ breakups

In just 13 days of November 2023, four couples have divorced. Couples including Rhymer and Ahn Hyun-mo, Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok, Seo Sa-rang and Lee Jung-hwan, and Jung Joo-yeon have put an end to their married lives.

Rhymer and Ahn Hyun-mo, who married in 2017, faced a crisis in their six-year marriage. Their divorce was revealed in May after going through a period of separation, and the reason for the divorce was cited as personality differences.

On November 4th, it was shocking news that Jung Joo-yeon divorced just six months after her marriage. Jung Joo-yeon had a wedding ceremony with an older businessman in April, but the couple separated after just six months. It was reported that they divorced without filing a marriage report.

Park Ji-yoon and Choi Dong-seok, who entered into marriage after dating within the company as KBS 30th generation announcers, also put an end to their married life. Last month, they revealed that they had filed for divorce mediation with the Jeju District Court through a legal representative.

Park Ji-yoon expressed, “I apologize for suddenly delivering this news to those who have been watching and cherishing us. I hope the divorce process goes smoothly and quietly, rather than blaming each other.

However, rumors and speculations about the reasons for divorce surfaced. Choi Dong-seok stated, “I have shared a video containing content that a man should be like, not a video I produced in the past. If speculations continue, I will respond firmly.”

Park Ji-yoon’s side also stated, “Despite carefully discussing the reasons for divorce for the stability of the children, we have confirmed that malicious rumors and false information are being indiscriminately spread on YouTube, SNS, and both online and offline. We will gather evidence of malicious rumors and false information and proceed with criminal charges.”

Seo Sa-rang and Lee Jung-hwan, who married in 2019, faced a crisis in their marriage despite giving birth to a daughter in the same year. Although they appeared on a program about the challenges between marriage and divorce, suggesting they were overcoming the crisis, they ultimately decided to part ways.

After seven years of dating, Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri also broke up. Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri formed a romantic connection while working on the drama ‘Reply 1988,’ which ended in 2016. They officially confirmed their relationship in August 2017, drawing attention as a long-lasting couple in the entertainment industry.

Sadly, their relationship ended in a breakup. The agencies of Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri stated, “Other than the fact that they broke up, we cannot provide details about the private lives of the two.”
