NewJeans’s Hyein Talks About Featuring In IU’s Song, “Thanks To ‘Palette’ Stage? I Was Upset Back Then”

Recently, Star News met with NewJeans member Hyein at the HYBE building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and listened to her feelings about featuring in the b-side track “Shh…” in IU’s 6th mini album “The Winning”.

Hyein shared, “I’m also curious about how the featuring was decided. Fans speculated that it was because senior singer IU showed enthusiastic responses when I sang on ‘Palette’ with the members’. Actually, I felt a little upset about myself back then”. Previously, NewJeans guested on IU’s YouTube content “IU’s Palette” and presented a live performance.

She continued, “I wanted to do even better because I was singing in front of a senior I’ve liked and respected ever since I was a trainee. That’s why I was a little upset. Still, I was grateful that she noticed my good parts and I was able to find a new vocal ability.”

Hyein, whose voice sounds very thin in NewJeans’s songs, showed a completely different side when featuring in IU’s song “Shh…” and proved her presence with a much deeper voice. She said, “CEO Min Hee-jin wanted me to sing with a comfortable voice because our songs need it to be comfortable to listen to. However, this time, other seniors also participated so I thought I should showcase my own color in this song”.

In addition, Hyein revealed that member Hanni helped her practice singing and the members also poured compliments on Hyein’s performance.
