NewJeans wins Group of the Year at “Billboard Women In Music Awards”

According to the list of winners of the “2024 Billboard Women In Music Awards” announced by Billboard on Jan 24th (local time), NewJeans (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) won the “Group of the Year Award”. This marks the first time a K-pop female artist has received this award. NewJeans is set to attend the awards ceremony at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, USA on March 6th.

Started in 2007, the “Billboard Women In Music Awards” selects and honors the top female artists, creators, producers, executives, etc., who have had a significant impact on the music industry over the year. This year, global top female artists such as Maren Morris, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue and Tems were selected as winners in various categories. NewJeans, as the only K-pop female artist, has proven their global stature by standing shoulder to shoulder with these artists.

In 2023, NewJeans made a strong impact on the global music market. They achieved the fastest ascent to the top of Billboard’s main album chart “Billboard 200” (week of Aug 5th, 2023) with their second EP “Get Up” just one year after their debut. With this album spending 26 consecutive weeks on the chart, NewJeans set a record for the longest-charting period by a K-pop girl group.

Furthermore, NewJeans demonstrated tremendous power by placing five songs (“OMG”, “Ditto”, “Super Shy”, “ETA”, “Cool With You”) on Billboard’s main song chart “Hot 100” in just the past year. Based on these achievements, NewJeans won the “Top Global K-pop Artist” award at the “Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs)”, one of the top three music awards ceremonies in the United States, and became the first K-pop girl group to perform at the event.
