NewJeans Shows Support for Tony Leung’s “The Goldfinger” after “Cool With You” Cameo

Actor Tony Leung previously appeared in NewJeans’ “Cool With You” MV, and now the girl group is returning the favor.

On April 8, a promotional video for Tony Leung’s film “The Goldfinger” was released, featuring New Jeans showing their support.

In the video, New Jeans greeted, “Do you happen to like movies?”, before recommending Tony Leung and Andy Lau’s movie “The Goldfinger,” which will be released on April 10.

Earlier, Tony Leung appeared in the MV for “Cool With You”, a song from New Jeans’ 2nd mini album “Get Up”, released in July last year. At that time, it became a hot topic when it was revealed that Tony Leung appeared without taking payment.

Regarding “The Goldfinger”, NewJeans said, “Actor Tony Leung appeared in our music video ‘Cool With You’ as well. It’s the work of Tony Leung, who has a deep connection with us.”

The girl group also raised expectations by saying, “Tony Leung, who transformed into a villain, and Andy Lau, who is pursuing Tony Leung, have powerful acting skills, making them special viewing points.”

Even with his short appearance in the “Cool With You” music video, Tony Leung left a strong impression. With white hair, Tony Leung had great chemistry with Jung Ho-yeon, who assumed the role of a god of love who chose love over her godhood. The scene where Jung Ho-yeon loses her smile in an instant and Tony Leung smiling while looking at her added to the mysterious atmosphere and narrative of the song.

Regarding this scene, director Shin Woo-seok, who was in charge of NewJeans’ “Cool With You” music video, once appeared on a live broadcast and explained, “Tony Leung’s appearance in the music video was synthesized. We shot in Barcelona, Spain, while Tony Leung shot in Tokyo. Everything was imagined and acted using green screens.”

He also mentioned that Tony Leung showed a very professional attitude, saying, “Before the shoot, he analyzed the character he had in mind. It was an honor just to work with Tony Leung”, at the same time adding, “He’s very modest. He came alone without a manager for meetings and shoots, both before and during filming.”

Meanwhile, “The Goldfinger” is a Hong Kong noir film depicting the fiery confrontation between Henry Ching Yat-yin (Tony Leung), founder of a multi-billion-dollar company that dominates the Hong Kong economy, and Lau Kai-yuen (Andy Lau), an anti-corruption investigator who tenaciously uncovers his empire. The movie will be released on April 10.

On the other hand, NewJeans will release a double single in Korea and Japan on May 24 and June 21, respectively.
