NewJeans nominated for the first time at MTV Video Music Awards

The 2023 MTV VMA has announced additional nominees on September 1st.

According to the official website, NewJeans is a nominee in the ‘Group of the Year’ category. This nomination marks a significant achievement for NewJeans, as they have gained global recognition just one year after their debut.

NewJeans recently made waves in the global music scene with their second mini-album, ‘Get Up,’ achieving the fastest ascent to the top of Billboard 200 among all K-pop groups after their debut.

They also had three title tracks simultaneously enter Hot 100, further solidifying their global impact. Additionally, they received an explosive response from fans worldwide by performing at major international festivals like ‘Lollapalooza Chicago’ in the US and ‘Summer Sonic’ in Japan.

NewJeans’ global chart success has continued for two months. On the latest UK official singles chart (as of September 1st), ‘Super Shy,’ one of the triple title tracks from ‘Get Up,’ ranked No. 85 for the eighth consecutive week. The song initially entered the chart at No. 59 on July 14th and reached its peak position at No. 52 on July 28th, showcasing its enduring popularity.

NewJeans continues to perform well on the world’s largest music streaming platform, Spotify, as well. ‘Super Shy’ is currently charting at No. 17 on Spotify’s global ‘Weekly Top Songs’ (as of August 31st) and No. 55 on Spotify US’ ‘Weekly Top Songs,’ maintaining its position for eight weeks.
