Japanese netizens criticized NewJeans member Hanni due to her “sushi land” caption.
The Twitter account of NewJeans members recently posted several photos of Hanni. They wrote the caption, “our short trip to sushi land”, and added various hashtags, such as Hanni, NewJeans, etc.
Based on the photos that mainly feature Hanni and her name in the hashtags, netizens presumed that the content was posted by Hanni herself.
Seeing the post, Japanese netizens showed negative reactions to Hanni calling Japan using the term “sushi land”. They commented, “Are you using insulting expressions on purpose?”, “Just say JAPAN. Why did you use the term ‘sushi land’?”, “The term is offensive”, “Sushi land? Don’t ever come to Japan”, etc.
A netizen expressed frustration, saying “Welcome. I’m a sushi man from sushi land. Hello, I came to kimchi land to make money”.
While criticism against Hanni is intensifying, there are some people who defended Hanni, saying “The word is not that controversial”, “She was cute”, etc.
