“Reveal the scoring calculation”… Netizens rage at “Music Bank” for letting LE SSERAFIM win No.1 against Lim Young-woong with full broadcasting point

Many netizens are complaining about the scoring criteria of KBS2’s “Music Bank”.

More than 30 petitions have recently been posted on KBS’s viewer petition bulletin board demanding “Music Bank” to disclose the exact scoring calculation of the recent broadcast in which Lim Young-woong appeared.

The number of viewers signing petitions for an explanation from “Music Bank” has surpassed 1000 in just a day. In addition, lots of articles are being posted on the viewer bulletin board of “Music Bank” asking the production team to explain the fairness of the rankings.

On the broadcast of KBS2’s “Music Bank”, which aired on May 13th, LE SSERAFIM’s “FEARLESS” beat Lim Young-woong’s “If We Ever Meet Again” to win the trophy in the second week of May.  Lim Young-woong and LE SSERAFIM scored 7035 points and 7881 points, respectively.

In fact, Lim Young-woong was far ahead of LE SSERAFIM in terms of digital and physical sales so he was expected to win 1st place. However, as Lim Young-woong was given no points while LE SSERAFIM scored 5348 points in the broadcasting category, the No.1 trophy eventually went to rookie girl group LE SSERAFIM. “Music Bank” determines the ranking every week by adding up points of different categories, including 60% digital, 20% broadcasting, 10% viewers’ preference, 5% physical, and 5% SNS.

Although the broadcasting category accounts for the second-highest percentage following digital, netizens are questioning whether it is fair for Lim Young-woong, who has recorded overwhelming success in initial album sales and amazing performances on music charts, to not win the No.1 simply because of the broadcasting point.

Many Internet users angrily commented, “This unfairness cannot happen on a national broadcasting channel like KBS”, “The production team needs to explain this properly. The criteria are not clear. Release the exact calculation details”.

“Music Bank”, which is currently under fire, has not yet provided any explanation regarding this issue.
