Netizens give divided reactions to Netflix drama actresses doing exposure scenes (ft. Nana, Cha Joo Young, Lee Joo Bin)

The discussion over whether exposure scenes are necessary for dramas is still a hot topic.

On-screen exposure of actresses in dramas and movies can bring either pros or cons to the quality of the work. Excessive exposure can cause issues, but if it is well connected to the storyline, it can help increase the audience’s immersion. However, exposure scenes that appear out of a sudden may distract viewers’ attention away from the main story.

Recently, several works released on the OTT platform Netflix drew keen attention for including actresses’ exposure scenes.

Cha Joo Young, who plays Choi Hye Jung in “The Glory” – Netflix’s most popular drama this year, created hot topics for exposing her upper body and back. Right after “The Glory Part 2” aired amid explosive anticipation from global viewers, the first issue to be discussed was Choi Hye Jung’s exposure scene.

Cha Joo Young showed off her flawless physique through the bold exposure enough to make many people speculate the use of CG effect in the scene. However, the actress explained, “Certain parts of the drama were edited with CG, but my body was shown both as it was and with CG”.

In addition, Lee Joo Bin, who took on the role of Yoon Mi Sun in “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, which premiered in June last year, showcased intense emotions and also portrayed a bed scene with high-level exposure. The actress revealed that she built her body by working out with PT for two hours a day and practicing Pilates five times a week in order to play the first bed scene in her acting career.

In fact, many netizens combined “Money Heist” with the original work and criticized it for showing low-quality content and actor’s awkward acting. However, the bed scene of Lee Joo Bin and Kim Ji Hoon garnered keen attention and even overshadowed the main story.

Released on August 18th, “Mask Girl” immediately captivated viewers by presenting lots of provocative content. In particular, actresses Nana and Lee Han Byul, who played the role of Kim Mo Mi together, shocked everyone with their daring exposure.

Lee Han Byul raised the tension of the story with the scene where she takes off her clothes on a live broadcast, while Nana takes off her clothes in prison and exposes her back.

In response to the mentioned actresses’ exposure scenes, viewers gave mixed responses. Some said, “I feel embarrassed watching those scenes”, “I’m not sure if these provocative scenes are necessary for the main stories”, “I think they put those exposure scenes in the dramas to create issues and gain attention”, “It’s too embarrassing to watch those dramas with family members and friends” etc.

On the other hand, many commented, “It’s just part of the drama”, “Professional complainers are making a mess again”, “If you feel uncomfortable, just fix your posture and sit down”, “You’ll understand why the scenes are added if you follow the emotional changes of the characters”, etc.
