Girl group LE SSERAFIM sparked controversies over the details of their new music video for the song “Smart”

On March 5th, LE SSERAFIM drew keen attention as released the music video for the b-side track “Smart”. Not only captivating fans with their unique concept, the members also showcased the impressive choreography that goes well with the addictive melody.

Soon after, a netizen on X (formerly Twitter) shared a clip cut from the music video and raised issues about the MV background set, sparking a heated debate among international fans. People who agreed with this person criticized HYBE, pointing out that the pictures on the wall in the background when the members were dancing and the concept of the MV were considered appropriation of black culture.

Of course, many people defended LE SSERAFIM, saying the whole set was created to match the vibe of the song only.

In addition to the MV set, fans once again expressed worries about Eunchae, the only minor member in the group.

Earlier when LE SSERAFIM performed the choreography of “Smart” for the first time at their showcase, netizens already criticized it for being too sexy for a minor like Eunchae. After the music video was released, many people continued to show discomfort and frustration upon seeing the 17-year-old member performing that sexy choreography while wearing a school uniform.

Since this is not the first time LE SSERAFIM has faced criticism over such issues, fans are urging their agency Source Music and HYBE to be more careful and reflect fans’ feedback in order to avoid unnecessary controversies.
