The Kpop industry has been getting extra hectic in July, with various Kpop idols making their comebacks. Among those, two 4th generation girl groups from big 3 companies, namely ITZY and aespa, are making for an interesting competition. However, while ITZY Lia is receiving plenty of praise for her improved dancing skills, aespa Giselle is facing the opposite reaction.
On July 8th, aespa made their comeback with the title song “Girls”, which boasts a heavy sound and puts an end to part 1 of aespa’s SMCU. So far, “Girls” have secured remarkable achievements, but the group also stumbles into a lot of controversies.
In particular, Giselle became the center of attention for constantly making mistakes in the choreography, including the first stage of the “Girls” promotion. Netizens also pointed out many moments where Giselle danced to the wrong beat, made the wrong movement, and struggled on stage, making it hard for them to enjoy the performance.
Even in aespa’s dance practice video for their B-side “Illusion”, Giselle messed up, causing disappointment among the public. They even started to question if the female idol has practiced properly.
Meanwhile, ITZY unleashed their mini album “CHECKMATE” and title song “SNEAKERS” on July 14th, which flaunts a catchy and summery melody. In addition, Lia, who used to be criticized for falling behind ITZY members in terms of dancing, is praised for her vast improvements in this comeback.
In particular, netizens commented that there seems to be more strength in Lia’s movements, and her body lines have gotten clearer. The female idol’s facial expression and stage presence also managed to wow netizens.
In the past, Lia used to be called a “dancing hole” within ITZY, as she fell behind her members Yeji, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, who are all top dancers. However, the idol has worked hard, and can now deliver outstanding stages as well.
