NCT fans accused a new boy group of copying the concept & choreography of NCT 127

Another plagiarism controversy has arisen.

We Dem Boyz dancer Vata became very famous after creating the viral choreography of Zico’s song “New Thing” on Mnet’s “Street Man Fighter”. However, some netizens pointed out that the “motorbike riding” move of Vata’s “New Thing” choreography is similar to the dance of ATEEZ’s song “Say My Name”.

As the controversy over Vata’s alleged choreography plagiarism, Anze Skrube, the foreign choreographer who created the dance for “Say My Name”, made an SNS post asking for an apology. In response, Vata explained, “I think the intentions of the move I created and the choreography in the comparison are completely different”.

Shortly after Vata’s choreography copying controversy, plagiarism suspicions continued to be raised when the concept image for the new song and some parts of the choreography for the 1st mini album “Monochrome” of the new boy group ATBO were found to be similar to “Kick It” of NCT 127.

The concept photo of ATBO’s 2nd mini album “The Beginning” released on October 8th showed the members doing cool poses in a wooden house.

The whole picture, from the members’ black outfits to the Oriental-style background, reminds netizens of the features in NCT 127’s “Kick It” music video.

Moreover, some moves of the choreography for the debut song “Monochrome” released by ATBO in July are also said to be similar to the signature dance of NCT 127’s “Kick It”.

In particular, global fans of NCT 127 claimed that some parts in ATBO’s choreography, such as the move of raising both hands above the head and spinning as well as the move of bending the upper body and lifting the right and left legs according to the beats, were copied from “Kick It” choreography.

NCT 127’s international fans are posting comments on ATBO’s official SNS account, pointing out the similarities and raising the issue of them plagiarising “Kick It” concept.

Internet users who saw the comparison post reacted, “The details look so similar to the point that I think the new boy group is doing noise marketing”, “As soon as I saw ATBO’s picture, I thought of ‘Kick It’”, “Seems like ATBO’s agency took so many references from ‘Kick it’”, etc.

Meanwhile, ATBO is the seven-member boy group introduced by IST Entertainment in July. They won Rookie of the Year in the Singer category at the 2022 Asia Model Awards held at Uijeongbu Indoor Gymnasium on October 16th.
