HYBE’s original story “7FATES: CHAKHO”, which Naver Webtoon collaborated with boy group BTS, set a new record of cumulative views within two days of its global launch.
On Jan 18th, Naver Webtoon announced that HYBE‘s original story “7FATES: CHAKHO” webtoon and web novel surpassed 15 million views in just two days after its launch, the highest among all Naver Webtoon launches ever. Thanks to this, the number of daily active users (DAU) of Naver Webtoon’s English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Thai services also set the highest record.
Besides, “7FATES: CHAKHO” topped the New & Trending chart as well as the All Genres chart on Naver Webtoon’s English service platform. Inspired by the chakho-gapsa, or tiger hunters, of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), “7FATES: CHAKHO” is an urban fantasy web novel set in the near future featuring protagonists inspired by BTS members.
An official from Naver Webtoon said, “This project is the first case in the industry to simultaneously launch webtoons and web novels in 10 languages. All three works are well-received for expressing curious storytelling through sophisticated illustrations. They seem to be attracting attention from a wide and diverse readership, not only new visitors but also existing subscribers.”
Earlier, Naver Webtoon launched a supercasting campaign to produce IPs (intellectual property) of world-class entertainment companies into webtoons or web novels based on the IP value chain that has been built on a global scale.
