‘My Dearest’ Season 1 Finale Scores Highest Ratings, Audience Worried About a Female Lead Change in Season 2

Viewers are not satisfied with this ending, worrying that the female lead role will be changed in Season 2.

My Dearest – the historical drama acclaimed as the best in Korea to date – has recently aired its season 1 finale. Contrary to the drama’s title, there is no “beloved” left together by the end. The season 1 finale concludes with a heart-wrenching ending, and it also hints at changes in the female lead character in season 2, scheduled to premiere this October.

Specifically, Gil Chae has received a marriage proposal from an arranged suitor, but it’s unclear if she has actually been married yet. Notably, in the closing scene, Jang Hyun accidentally encounters a woman who specializes in hunting slaves (portrayed by Lee Chung Ah). This character is likely to play a crucial role in season 2 of the series. Witnessing this encounter, viewers are extremely concerned that in season 2, the female lead will be changed from Gil Chae to Lee Chung Ah’s character. Many comments express their only hope that even if the female lead changes, the two characters can still collaborate, while Jang Hyun continues to yearn for Gil Chae.

After the season finale aired, viewers left numerous comments reflecting their confusion and even disappointment with this ending. Nevertheless, this episode still achieved the highest ratings throughout its broadcasting journey, reaching a milestone of 12.2%, promising even greater success for season 2.
