Music Bank confirmed “not guilty” regarding Lim Young Woong score manipulation allegation

The score manipulation charges of KBS’ “Music Bank” regarding Lim Young Woong and LE SSERAFIM have been cleared up.

According to the police on February 10th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul conducted an investigation on KBS 2TV’s “Music Bank” production team, and confirmed the program as being “not guilty” for score manipulation.

Previously in an episode of “Music Bank”, which aired in May last year, Lim Young Woong’s “If We Ever Meet Again” was nominated for first place against LE SSERAFIM’s “FEARLESS”.

It is known that “Music Bank” calculated its winner based on 60% digital score, 20% broadcast score, 10% audience vote, 5% physical album, and 5% SNS. However, while Lim Yoong Woong was ahead of LE SSERAFIM in both digital and physical scores, he finished 2nd due to getting 0 points in the broadcast score.

After that, “Music Bank” was suspected of “score manipulation”. Particularly, Lim Young Woong’s fans filed a petition with the KBS Viewer’s Rights Center regarding the criteria for calculating the number of broadcasts, and made a complaint through the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s People’s Sinmungo to thoroughly investigate the manipulation of broadcast scores.

At the time, KBS explained, “The broadcast score was not manipulated. Lim Young Woong’s ‘If We Ever Meet Again’ was not broadcast on KBS TV, radio, and digital content from the 2nd to the 8th, which is the tracking period.”

However, in reality, the song was broadcasted on the May 4th episode of KBS Happy FM’s “Lim Baek Cheon’s Back Music” and KBS Cool FM’s “Lee Yoon Jung’s Exciting Night”, as well as the May 7th episode of KBS Happy FM’s “With Kim Hye Young’”, leading to growing controversies.

Regarding this, KBS explained once again, “Only 7 radio programs of KBS Cool FM are counted for the broadcast score of ‘Music Bank’. Programs other than those are not calculated.”

As a result, Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul regarded the production team of “Music Bank” as suspects and started an investigation.

Afterwards, the production team of “Music Bank” submitted data related to the broadcast score scoring standard to the police, after being charged with “obstruction of business”.

Now, it is reported that “Music Bank” has been deemed “not guilty”, and a police official said, “It is true that the charges were cleared, but I can’t tell you the details.”
