“Mr. House Husband 2” production team eventually suspended its replay due to the controversy over minors’ circumcision surgery scenes

“Mr. House Husband 2” suspended the replay of the controversial broadcast about the group circumcision surgery of minors.

KBS 2TV’s program “Mr. House Husband 2”, which aired on September 17th, showed former baseball player Hong Sung-heon’s son, who is a middle school student, undergoing circumcision surgery together with his friends.

However, after the broadcast, Internet users poured out negative reactions criticizing the broadcast as “sexual harassment” and “sexual abuse”. In the end, the production team decided to suspend the replay of the September 17th broadcast and issued an apology. The OTT site in which the program is aired also announced that the replay of this broadcast was temporarily suspended at the request of the production team. Only the episode of Hong Sung-heon’s family has been deleted from portal sites.

The production team explained, “Through conversations with families, the students themselves considered circumcision surgery necessary, and their parents also agreed to broadcast the content. After spending one and a half month discussing with the students and their parents, the content was decided based on the student’s voluntary decision-making”. They added, “The students’ parents also respected their children and agreed to film the content. There was also no intervention from the production team in the process”.

In addition, the production team also apologized, “All the surgery scenes were filmed under the observation of the students’ parents, and all members of the families finished the filming in a warm atmosphere. Contrary to our intention of showing how family members comfortably talk about gender issues, we have caused inconvenience to the viewers. Therefore, we would like to deeply apologize for that.”

Even after the production team revealed the fact that the filming was agreed upon by the children and their parents, netizens continued to pour out criticism, pointing out that showing minors’ circumcision surgery on TV broadcast was already a problem.
