Moon Chae-won Wraps 2023 With Volunteer Work Instead Of Attending Awards Ceremonies To Mourn Lee Sun-kyun

According to IOK Company on January 2nd, Moon Chae-won and g.o.d’s Kim Tae-woo & Danny Ahn started doing volunteer work at an orphanage at the end of last year. They visited Shinmangwon in Gyeonggi-do, a social welfare organization established in 1952 that protects and nurtures children in need so that they can become good members of society.

IOK’s executives, including Moon Chae-won, Kim Tae-woo and Danny Ahn, participated in preparing the Christmas party for 30 children in a warm atmosphere. They had a meaningful time together, laughing and enjoying some fun on a special holiday. 

In the photos released by IOK, Moon Chae-won was smiling happily while hugging the children in her arms. The children also expressed their gratitude for the sponsorship, saying “Thank you for buying delicious food for us on Christmas”, “They never forget to visit us”, etc.

Earlier, Moon Chae-won starred in SBS’s Fri-Sat drama “Payback”, which ended in February, as military judicial officer Park Joon-kyung. The drama successfully achieved a double-digit rating and reached the highest rating peak of 11.4%. This is the third highest-rating SBS drama in 2023, following “Taxi Driver 2” and “Dr. Romantic 3”.

However, “Payback” lead actor Lee Sun-kyun suddenly passed away as he attempted an extreme choice while under a drug investigation. After he was laid to rest on the morning of December 29th, the 2023 SBS Drama Awards was held on the evening of the same day.

Due to the sad news of Lee Sun-kyun’s passing, all the cast members of “Payback” decided to not attend the awards ceremony. Moon Chae-won won Top Excellence Award but couldn’t receive the trophy herself so MC Shin Dong-yeop said, “We will make sure to deliver it to her”.

Instead of their attendance, “Payback” team left a message to pay tribute to Lee Sun-kyun at the end of the awards ceremony. The message was shown together with a photo of Lee Sun-kyun smiling gently.

In the meantime, fans were glad to hear the news of Moon Chae-won doing volunteer work. IOK said, “We will continue to spread good influence in the future”.
