A major legal dispute involving popular actress Mio Imada and her management agency has come to light, drawing significant attention within the entertainment industry.

According to a report published on November 19 by Daily Shincho, Imada’s agency Contents 3 is currently facing a lawsuit filed by Tanabe Music Publishing, a company under the prominent K-Dash Group. The lawsuit, filed in June 2025, seeks approximately ¥300 million (about 1.9M USD) in unpaid compensation related to Imada’s advertising activities.

Industry insiders explain that during Imada’s early debut period, executives from Tanabe Music Publishing provided substantial support in securing commercial casting opportunities for the young actress. As a result, an agreement was made in which 30% of all CM appearance fees would be distributed to Tanabe Music Publishing.

However, around four years ago, Contents 3 began handling advertising contracts directly. In the summer of 2024, the agency reportedly notified Tanabe Music Publishing that it would be terminating the “30% payment” agreement, which escalated tensions between the two sides. The current lawsuit centers on the claim that more than ¥300 million in contractual fees remain unpaid.

Mio Imada is currently one of the most in-demand commercial faces in Japan. She holds 15 active CM contracts, ranking third in Japan Monitor’s 2025 Mid-Year CM Appearance Rankings. The sudden emergence of a legal dispute involving her agency has raised questions about potential ramifications for her career.

Entertainment journalist Shoji Hirata offered insight into the situation:

“Current CM contracts are unlikely to be immediately affected. However, when it comes to new deals, sponsors may exercise more caution after seeing these reports.
Imada’s success stems largely from her clean image, but it is also true that Tanabe Music Publishing’s backing played a role behind the scenes. Without that support, it remains to be seen how smoothly new contracts can be secured going forward.”

When asked whether the report had caused any direct impact on Imada, her agency Contents 3 issued the following formal statement:

“Advertisers and partner agencies continue to extend warm support to us. However, we regret that several articles have been published containing claims inconsistent with the facts.
At this time, we are unable to comment on individual cases.
We respectfully request accurate understanding from all parties so that speculative or one-sided reporting does not continue.”

Despite the ongoing legal conflict, Mio Imada is preparing for a major milestone: she has been announced as the Red Team’s host for the 76th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen. Fans hope to see her bring her trademark bright smile to the prestigious annual event, even amid the turbulence surrounding her agency.
