MBC’s “Boys Fantasy” contestant is dropped from the show due to inappropriate behaviors with a student

The controversy arises before the program’s scheduled air date.

Specifically, On March 6th, a media outlet reported that Hinata, a Japanese participant in “Fantasy Boys,” or “My Teenage Boys”, has been dropped from the show due to a controversy over his private life.

According to reports, Hinata was active as a TikToker and was reported to have committed inappropriate behaviors with a third-year high-school girl a year before.

The controversy started with a presumed Japanese netizen who urged people, “Don’t cheer for Hinata.” When the news broke out, Hinata admitted to some aspects of the rumor.

An official of “Fantasy Boys” released a statement, “It has been confirmed that the privacy issue did arise in the past, and that the contestant has partially acknowledged and apologized for this.” Moreover, the official stated, “The production team is also aware of the seriousness of the incident.”

“It was decided that the contestant would be dropped from the show,” adding, “We will also go through the editing process to avoid exposure as much as possible of the parts of the participant that has already been filmed on the show.”

Earlier, Hinata attended the official schedule for “Fantasy Boys” on March 1st. However, his name was later deleted from the voting list, starting at midnight on the 5th, due to growing controversy.

Boys Fantasy

Recently, a “performance risk warning” is issued to the broadcaster. Controversy of the cast, no matter how far and unverified it is, can deal a strong blow to the broadcasting program. The more popular the program is, the stronger the impact is.

Earlier, MBN’s “Burning Trotman” caused a stir over the assault record of Hwang Young Woong, a leading champion candidate. Hwang Young-woong was exposed to be involved in school bullying and abusive behaviors towards his ex. In the end, the production team decided to drop Hwang Young Woong from the national tour ahead of the final stage.

The same was true for Netflix’s hit series “Physical: 100.” While the show was able to air the entire episodes, it still suffered due to the past controversies of the contestants.

“Fantasy Boys” is scheduled to air on MBC on March 23rd, at 10 p.m. (KST).
