“Love to Hate You” Kim Ji Hoon shook off the sluggishness of “Money Heist: Korea” and exploded globally

Netflix’s drama “Love to Hate You” starring Kim Ji Hoon exploded globally.

According to Flix Patrol, an OTT platform viewing ranking site, “Love to Hate You” ranked second worldwide in the TV show category on Feb 14th, four days after its release. “Love to Hate You” fell behind the American drama “You” (No.1), but rose to No.2 with an even rise in all continents. It also has a high IMDB rating of 7.9 (out of 10).

For Kim Ji Hoon, who co-starred with Kim Ok Vin and Teo Yoo, the positive sign for success of “Love to Hate You” is more valuable and meaningful. Since 2021, he has adapted to the changing times by choosing Netflix’s dramas “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” and “Love to Hate You”. Riding K-content’s tailwind, he has been knocking on the global market through OTT.

However, the first work “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” failed to surpass the original Spanish work and fell short of expectations. Part 2, which was released 6 months later, was said to have been better, but it failed to cover the disappointment of Part 1, which was criticized for its jingoism and directing skills. Kim Ji Hoon, who played the role of Denver, also had to go through a hard time with mixed likes and dislikes over his acting in Gyeongsang-do dialect in the drama.

However, in “Love to Hate You”, there is a series of praise for his acting, such as “It seems like he’s wearing a customized suit”. “Love to Hate You” is a romantic comedy in which a celebrity lawyer (Kim Ok Vin) and a top star (Teo Yoo), who hate each other, fall in sweet love through a contractual relationship. Kim Ji Hoon played the role of Do Won Jun, the CEO of an entertainment agency that made his friend a top star. He increased viewers’ immersion level with his relaxed acting.

Viewers of “Love to Hate You” are interested, saying, “Kim Ji Hoon’s lines and facial expressions are like seeing the true face of the entertainment industry.” There are many reviews that it is more realistic than tvN’s “Behind Every Star”. In particular, the episode in which Kim Ji Hoon and Teo Yoo are in danger of failing to appear in a noir film ahead of signing the contract due to gay rumors is the most talked about episode.

An official from “Love to Hate You” said, “The chemistry between Kim Ji Hoon, Kim Ok Vin and Teo Yoo was fantastic throughout the filming period. I’m glad that K rom-coms, which were created with such efforts, are attracting global attention. I’m looking forward to seeing the steep rise in traffic in Asia, including Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.”
