While Liu Yuning hasn’t appeared in a new drama recently, his presence is still widely felt across the Chinese entertainment scene not on screen, but through his voice.

After gaining attention with his breakout roles in The Prisoner of Beauty and A Dream Within a Dream, Liu Yuning has since shifted his focus to music. Over the past several months, he’s been busy hosting sold-out concerts and contributing songs to multiple TV dramas all while staying off the filming set.

In October 2025 alone, Liu Yuning performed original soundtracks for three major costume dramas:

  • A duet with Zhang Liang Ying in The Water Dragon Chant (titled Why Not Bathe in Spring Winds to Meet You.
  • Solo ballad Unforgotten for Dark River Chronicle.
  • Anthem Ten Thousand Swords Will Never Change for Heart of Sword and Heaven.

Each song has resonated with fans, showcasing Liu’s emotional range and cementing his nickname as “the OST King.”

During a recent livestream, Liu Yuning shared that he currently has no plans to take on new acting projects. It’s been over a year since he wrapped filming on A Dream Within a Dream in September 2024. The only remaining unreleased drama is Rose Dust, filmed in 2023 and still awaiting a premiere date.

Earlier rumors that Liu would star in the upcoming drama The General’s Only Empress were quickly shut down by the actor himself. “I haven’t received any offer for that role,” he clarified, adding that even if approached, he would turn it down.

Fans remain hopeful that Liu Yuning will return to acting soon with a fresh script. Until then, his voice continues to fill living rooms across the country, proving that even without a new drama, Liu knows how to own the stage and the charts.
