Lee Seung-gi, who found love through golf, let go of the golf club for a while.
He has been with SBS’ golf entertainment show “Golf Battle: Birdie Buddies” since season 1 but did not appear in season 4. He seems to “hit it then quit it” towards golf entertainment shows, which has become less popular.
On Aug 31st, “Golf Battle: Birdie Buddies 4” was first broadcast. On “Golf Battle: Birdie Buddies 4”, which has a prize money of 35 million won, 12 players including Lee Kyung-kyu, Lee Seung-yuop, Lee Jung-jin, Joo Sang-wook, Tak Jae-hoon, Kim Jun-ho, Im Chang-jung, Lee Jong-hyuk, Kim Jong-min, Yang Se-chan, Lee Jung-shin and Kang Min-hyuk will play golf as 6 teams. Lee Seung-gi has been on the show since season 1, but he was absent this season.
It is known that Lee Seung-gi became close with his girlfriend Lee Da-in through golf. Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in have been dating publicly for 2 years. They were spotted playing golf together then visiting Lee Seung-gi’s grandmother’s house. The two were once embroiled in a breakup rumor, but they denied the breakup rumor by posting photos taken in the same place a day apart.
Lee Seung-gi explained the reason for his silence on the breakup rumor by posting a long piece of writing on his official website in June. Lee Seung-gi said, “First of all, I have stayed silent amidst all the confusion. I believed saying anything emotionally would not convey my thoughts clearly. I thought, ‘If I said something, I might cause greater misunderstandings and hurt everyone’. Secondly, I was worried that if our communication and stories spread and became distorted rumors, it would hurt many people and be used as another gossip for someone.”
He added, “I think we lacked communication and got hurt a lot during the past year. Please blame me for my shortcomings and I hope you can generously understand my position.” Lee Seung-gi said he was seriously thinking about marriage, so attention is focused on the two’s marriage.
Lee Seung-gi’s relationship with his lover Lee Da-in was strengthened through golf, but he put down golf entertainment shows for a while. “Golf Battle: Birdie Buddies”, which recorded the highest rating of 4.1% in season 2, continued to reach the 2% range in season 3. Season 3’s highest rating of 3% came from episode 1 out of 16 episodes.
In addition, Lee Seung-gi’s recent entertainment report card is not very good. SBS’ “Circle House”, which aired from February to April, recorded the highest rating of 3.7%, but Lee Seung-gi did not stand out much on “Circle House”. SBS’ “Master in the House” led by Lee Seung-gi is also barely continuing its ratings in the 3~4% range.
Although he briefly discontinued golf entertainment shows, he will visit viewers as an actor for the first time since confirming his relationship through KBS2’s “The Law Cafe”, which is scheduled to premiere on Sep 5th. Attention is focused on whether he will be able to rebound from the crisis through the drama.
